√(3) Communists Give Reason For Lull In CHEJU-DO Riots [illegible]
According to a memorandum from the Central Headquarters of the SOUTH KOREA LABOR PARTY to the LABORING PEOPLE'S PARTY, which was classified confidential and not to be given to ordinary party members, the lull in the riots on CHEJU-DO is not the result of police or constabulary action but is voluntary on the part of the raiders to prevent the Commanding General of the U.S. Occupation Forces from using the riots as an excuse to delay the withdrawal of U.S. Occupation Forces in KOREA. This period of calm will continue only until the latter part of July.
Numerous weapons and North Korea People's Army troops are reportedly now available for future riots, and further reinforcements when needed have been promised by KIM Il Sung. (CIC P/R #164. C-3)
