제주도의 제59군정 중대는 러시아 선박 ‘세르기오 올드 야르게아이드에 제599호(SERGO-ORD JIARKYAID E No. 599)’가 7월 20일 새벽 4시 제주읍에서 1마일 떨어진 연안에 정박했다고 보고했다. 군정장교들이 조사차 나갔다가 이 선박은 7월 14일 대련(Dairen)을 떠나 사할린의 호르무스크(樺太 眞岡, TOYMAOKA KARA FUTO)로 가다가 한국의 남단에서 폭풍을 만났다는 사실을 알게 되었다. 선장 드미트리 막시모(DIMITRI MAXIMO)는 폭풍으로 식량을 잃어버렸다고 하면서 식량을 공급해줄 것을 요청했다. 군정장교들은 식량공급을 하겠다고 밝히고 선장과 기관 장교를 해안으로 데려갔다. 요구한 양의 쌀과 소금, 고기 통조림이 공급됐다. 식량이 공급되자 선박은 7월 20일 정오에 출항했다. 선박에는 선원 20명 외에 병사와 민간인 남녀 등 38명의 승객이 타고 있었다. 선박은 1만 1,874t급이었다. 선장은 블라디보스톡에 있는 러시아 사령관에게 알려줄 것을 요청했다.

a. The 59th MG Co on CHEJU Island reported by radio that a Russian ship, the "SERGO-ORD JIARKYAID E" (spelled as per copy) No 599, anchored one mile off the city of CHEJU (952 - 1152) at 0400, 20 July. MG officers went out to the ship and learned that the ship had left DAIREN 14 July enroute to TOYMAOKA KARA FUTO (spelled as per copy) and had run into a storm off the southern tip of Korea. The ship's captain, DIMITRI MAXIMC, said, that he had lost his food rations in the storm and requested that food supplies be furnished him. Officers agreed to supply him and took the ship's captain and the engineer officer ashore to obtain the food. Rice, salt, and canned meat in amounts requested were supplied. After taking on rations, the ship departed at 1200, 20 July. There were 38 passengers consisting of soldiers and civilian men and women in addition to a crew of 20 aboard. The ship's tonnage was given as 11,874 tons. The ship's captain requested that the Russian Commander at VLADIVOSTOK be informed.
