하지 장군, 공석 중인 제주도 입법위원 선출 절차 밟도록 (발췌: 주한미육군사령부, <일일정보보고> 제429호, 1947년 1월 14일)
“입법의원 - 71명의 의원이 참석한 1월 13일 회의에서, 의장을 맡아 회의를 주재한 김규식 박사가 하지(John R. Hodge) 장군의 서한을 낭독했다. 서한에서 하지 장군은 참여를 거부한 좌익 당선자인 여운형과 장건상에게 1월 15일 이전에 입법의원에 등록해야 하며 그렇지 않으면 의원직을 상실한다는 사실을 알렸다고 밝혔다. 또한 하지 장군은 서한에서 제주도지사에게 의원직을 사퇴한 제주도 출신 좌익인사들을 대신할 두 명의 입법의원을 선출할 선거 절차를 밟도록 지시했다.

"Legislative Notes - Meeting on 13 January with seventy-one members
present, *** Dr KIM, Kyu Sik, presiding chairman, read General Hodge's
letter which disclosed the fact that the General has advised LYUH, Woon
Hyung and CHANG, Kun Seng, Leftist appointees who have than far declined
their seats, that they must register with the Assembly before 15 January
or lose their memberships. Also, the latter stated that the General
has directed the governor of CHEJU DO to proceed with the election of
two members to replace those Leftists from that province who previously
had refused to take their seats."
