HODGE SENDS FOR JACOBS. --- p448 --- In response to recommendation of National Election Committee in letter to him dated May 19, General Dean as Military Governor issued order for new election on June 23 in two of three districts of Cheju Island as follows: "One. The elections in electoral district A and electoral district B of North Cheju Do held on May 10, 1948, under the law for the election of representatives for the Korean people issued March 17, 1948, are hereby declared null and void and of no effect. Two. It is hereby ordered that a new election take place in these two districts on June 23, 1948 in accordance with Section 44 of the aforesaid law under the provisions of said law and under the supervision and control of the National Election Committee. Three. This decision to nullify these elections was arrived at after consultation with the National Election Committee which took into consideration the fact that voting was held in less than 50% of the voting districts of electoral district A and electoral district A and electoral district B of North Cheju Do on May 10, 1948, due to activities and violence subversive elements. Under these circumstances the election in electoral district A and electoral district B of North Cheju Do on May 10 1948, cannot be considered a true expression of the will of the people." JACOBS
