방첩대의 엘르(St Ele) 대위가 오후 5시 광주를 출발해 다음과 같은 보고서를 제출했다.
1. 미군 위관급 장교 2명(그린바움 Greenbaum과 모어 Mohr)이 제4연대의 한 중대와 동행해 48년 10월 20일 순천으로 갔다. 그 뒤 순천에 있었던 한 한국인 위관장교는 미군 위관급 장교 2명이 읍을 해방했다고 보고했다. 미군 장교나 중대로부터의 추가보고는 없었다.
2. 10월 20일 오후 순천으로 간 다른 2개 중대는 그날 저녁 광주로 귀환했다. 사상자는 없었다.
3. 제4연대의 A대대는 48년 10월 21일 오후 3시 배치에 들어가 순천 북서쪽 6마일 정도 떨어진 도로를 따라 배치됐다.
4. 폭도들이 벌량면 1곳, 벌교 1곳, 조성 1곳, 낙안 1곳 등 지서 4곳을 장악했다고 경찰은 보고했다.
5. 광양 교외 북쪽으로 가는 것으로 이전에 보고된 군인들을 객차 3대에 실은 열차가 사실상 48년 10월 21일 낮 12시 5분께 순천 교외 북쪽으로 나아갔다.
6. 반란군들이 보성에서 경찰을 습격하기 위해 트럭으로 이동하던 중 반란군 26명이 경비대원 3명에게 붙잡혔다. 포로들은 10월 19일 밤에 부대에서 이탈하여 무기를 꺼내들도록 명령받았다고 진술하고 있다. 그들은 제주도로 가기 위해 무기를 꺼내들고 있는 것이라고 생각했다. 포로 가운데 1명은 자신들은 아무도 죽이지 않았고 북한 정부를 선포하면서 여러 마을을 지나가면서 단지 허공에다 소총을 난사했다고 말했다.
7. 광주의 국방경비대 사령부는 반란군 가운데 2,400명의 경비대원이 있는 것으로 추정했다. 한 포로의 진술에 따르면 민간인 숫자는 극소수라고 밝혔다.(F-6)

This is G-2 Highlight 305, 21 Oct 48.
Capt St Ele, CIC, departed from Kwangju (990-1350) at 1700 and submitted the following report:
1. 2 American Lts (Greenbaum and Mohr) accompanied one Co of the 4th Regt into Sunchon 20 Oct 48. Subsequently, a Korean Lt who had been in Sunchon reported that the 2 American Lts had the freedom of the town. Nothing further has been heard of the Lts or the company.
2. 2 other companies that went to Sunchon 20 Oct afternoon returned to Kwangju that night. They suffered no casualties.
3. A Bn of the 4th Regt is in position across the road about 6 miles Northwest of Sunchon having gone into position at 211500 Oct 48.
4. Police report that rioters have captured 4 police boxes, 1 in Beryangmyin (1040-10), 1 in Polgyo (1034-1314), 1 in Chosung (1025-1309) and 1 in Naggan (1034-1324).
5. The train consisting of 3 carloads of soldiers which was previously reported as proceeding North out of Kwangyang (1060-1330) was actually proceeding North out of Sunchon at approx 211205 Oct 48.
6. 26 of the mutineers were captured by 3 loyal Constabularymen while the mutineers were en route in a
truck to attack the police at Posong (1000-1300). Prisoners state that on the night of 19 Oct they were told to fall out and draw weapons; they thought that they were drawing weapons to go to Cheju Do. One of the prisoners states that they did not kill anyone but simply fired their rifles in the air as they went through various villages proclaiming North Korean Govt.
7. The Kwangju Constabulary Hq estimates 2,400 Constabularymen among the mutineers. Only estimate of nbr of civs is a prisoner's statement that there were very few. (F-6).
8. Constabulary and police morale at Kwangju excellent. (F-2).
